Albany Arts and Green Festival

IMG_9736_2Come and visit our tables at this fun, annual event. There’ll be a chance to make a May Day wreath and then participate in a maypole dance at 2:35 pm!

The Edible Garden will have interesting activities and contests to win unusual starts. The Diverse Housing Working Group will get you thinking about how people live who have no stable home, and how you can help them, and you’ll have a chance to register for May’s Community Resilience Challenge and get more information about Transition Streets – a neighborhood-driven effort to build resilient community.

Plenty of good ideas for greening your lifestyle even more, plus local artists and craftspeople  and entertainment from some of our excellent local musicians including the AHS music classes.

This Changes Everything – a second chance

What if confronting the climate crisis is the best chance we’ll ever get to build a better world? Inspired by Naomi Klein’s international non-fiction best sellScreen Shot 2016-02-12 at 1.16.50 PMer, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change.

After the film join us for light refreshments at nearby Nong Thon Restaurant and mingle with representatives from local organizations.  Learn how to get involved and take action now.

Take low-carbon transport (bike, transit, or walk) and enter a drawing for green giveaways!

Nicotine Bees

Bees everywhere are struggling to survive widely used systemic pesticides – neonicotinoids or “neonics” – that not only damage their nervous systems but make them addicts. Sound familiar? Most of our food relies, directly or indirectly, on pollination by bees, so this affects us all.

Come and get educated so we can all take effective action. A ban on neonicotinoids in Europe saw an immediate rebound in bee populations.

DIY Laundry-to-Landscape Installation

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 7.52.22 PMIn this seminar you’ll learn everything you need to know about installing your own Laundry-to-Landscape (L2L) greywater system at home, something that any reasonably handy person can accomplish.

The seminar covers every detail you’ll need to know, and includes a mock installation where you identify and put together the necessary parts, followed by a visit to to an existing L2L system nearby.

If this is your first encounter with greywater, we suggest you attend the previous seminar about the basics, on Sunday, October 4th (2-3 pm).

If you would like to see your fruit trees, shade trees and bushes thrive, while you reduce your potable water use by up to half, come to this free one-hour free seminar, co-sponsored by Alameda County Library and ACRAT (Albany Carbon Reduction Action Team). You’ll learn which kind of greywater system, if any, would best suit your situation, the legal framework for greywater systems, and how they actually work.
